Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on January 11, 1940, to a seat vacated by Alexander Akerman. Confirmed by the Senate on February 1, 1940, and received commission on February 5, 1940. Served as chief judge, 1955-1959. Assumed senior status on April 30, 1959. Service terminated on April 13, 1968, due to death.
