Nominated by Herbert Hoover on February 21, 1931, to a new seat authorized by 46 Stat. 820. Confirmed by the Senate on February 28, 1931, and received commission on March 2, 1931. Served as chief judge, 1948-1950. Service terminated on October 4, 1950, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Nominated by Harry S Truman on September 14, 1950, to a seat vacated by Curtis Longino Waller. Confirmed by the Senate on September 23, 1950, and received commission on September 26, 1950. Service terminated on July 26, 1954, due to death.
