Received a recess appointment from Warren G. Harding on April 4, 1921, to a seat vacated by Alston B. Dayton; nominated to the same position by Warren G. Harding on April 14, 1921. Confirmed by the Senate on May 3, 1921, and received commission on May 3, 1921. Served as chief judge, 1948-1954. Assumed senior status on April 3, 1954. Service terminated on June 4, 1954, due to death.
