Nominated by John F. Kennedy on July 18, 1962, to a seat vacated by Royce H. Savage. Confirmed by the Senate on August 1, 1962, and received commission on August 2, 1962. Served as chief judge, 1962-1979. Service terminated on February 26, 1979, due to death.
