Congress established the U.S. Circuit Court for the District of Massachusetts and assigned the district to the Eastern Circuit.

The Judiciary Act of 1801 established six regional circuit courts to replace the circuit courts organized by judicial districts. The Act placed the District of Massachusetts under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Circuit Court for the First Circuit.

Congress repealed the Judiciary Act of 1801 and restored the organization of the judiciary in effect before 1801, thereby re-establishing the U.S. Circuit Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Judiciary Act of 1802 assigned the District of Massachusetts to the First Circuit.
