Salaries for Clerks of Court

As it did with respect to marshals and district attorneys in 1896, Congress moved the clerks of the district courts from a fee-based compensation system to a fixed-salary system. The clerks of the U.S. circuit courts of appeals had received fixed salaries since those courts were created by the Evarts Act of 1891.
