Received a recess appointment from John Quincy Adams on November 1, 1828, to a seat vacated by Charles Willing Byrd; nominated to the same position by John Quincy Adams on December 11, 1828. Service terminated on March 3, 1829, after nomination was not confirmed by the Senate.
