Nominated by Dwight D. Eisenhower on July 1, 1955, to a new seat authorized by 68 Stat. 8. Confirmed by the Senate on July 19, 1955, and received commission on July 27, 1955. Served as chief judge, 1957-1973. Assumed senior status on October 8, 1973. Service terminated on May 12, 2001, due to death.
