Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on January 27, 1936, to a seat vacated by Benson W. Hough. Confirmed by the Senate on February 4, 1936, and received commission on February 12, 1936. Served as chief judge, 1953-1962. Assumed senior status on December 31, 1965. Service terminated on March 8, 1972, due to death.
