Nominated by Woodrow Wilson on July 31, 1919, to a new seat authorized by 40 Stat. 1156. Confirmed by the Senate on August 5, 1919, and received commission on August 5, 1919. Service terminated on January 30, 1931, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
Nominated by Herbert Hoover on December 20, 1930, to a seat vacated by Richard Wilde Walker. Confirmed by the Senate on January 13, 1931, and received commission on January 24, 1931. Assumed senior status on October 1, 1949. Service terminated on October 13, 1958, due to death.
