Nominated by Harry S Truman on April 5, 1949, to a seat vacated by Robert L. Brown. Confirmed by the Senate on May 4, 1949, and received commission on May 9, 1949. Served as chief judge, 1957-1965. Assumed senior status due to certified disability on December 31, 1965. Service terminated on October 3, 1994, due to death.
