Nominated by Jimmy Carter on May 22, 1979, to a new seat authorized by 92 Stat. 1629. Confirmed by the Senate on July 23, 1979, and received commission on July 24, 1979. Served as chief judge, 1990-1995. Assumed senior status on June 30, 1995. Service terminated on April 21, 2009, due to death.
