Nominated by Dwight D. Eisenhower on June 10, 1960, to a seat vacated by Mortimer Byers. Confirmed by the Senate on July 2, 1960, and received commission on July 6, 1960. Served as chief judge, 1969-1980. Assumed senior status on April 30, 1980. Service terminated on January 26, 2004, due to death.
