Nominated by Harry S Truman on September 12, 1945, to a seat vacated by Fred M. Vinson. Confirmed by the Senate on September 24, 1945, and received commission on September 28, 1945. Served as chief judge, 1960-1962. Assumed senior status on October 15, 1964. Service terminated on January 24, 1976, due to death.
