Received a recess appointment from Calvin Coolidge on September 14, 1928, to a seat vacated by W.H. Seward Thomson; nominated to the same position by Calvin Coolidge on December 6, 1928. Confirmed by the Senate on December 17, 1928, and received commission on December 17, 1928. Served as chief judge, 1949-1951. Assumed senior status on February 1, 1951. Service terminated on December 20, 1960, due to death.
