Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on March 29, 1971, to a seat vacated by William J. Lindberg. Confirmed by the Senate on April 21, 1971, and received commission on April 23, 1971. Served as chief judge, 1975-1987. Assumed senior status on September 30, 1987. Service terminated on July 8, 2021, due to death.
