Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson on July 17, 1967, to a new seat authorized by 80 Stat. 75. Confirmed by the Senate on August 18, 1967, and received commission on August 25, 1967. Served as chief judge, 1979-1985. Assumed senior status on November 30, 1985. Service terminated on January 30, 1998, due to retirement.
