Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on September 12, 1972, to a seat vacated by Henry Luesing Brooks. Confirmed by the Senate on October 3, 1972, and received commission on October 5, 1972. Served as chief judge, 1983-1988. Assumed senior status on January 1, 1989. Service terminated on March 12, 2016, due to death.
