Nominated by Theodore Roosevelt on December 3, 1906, to a seat vacated by George P. Wanty. Confirmed by the Senate on December 10, 1906, and received commission on December 10, 1906. Service terminated on February 8, 1910, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Judge, U.S. Circuit Courts for the Sixth Circuit
Nominated by William H. Taft on January 17, 1910, to a seat vacated by Horace Harmon Lurton. Confirmed by the Senate on January 31, 1910, and received commission on January 31, 1910. Service terminated on December 31, 1911, due to abolition of the court.

Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
Nominated by William H. Taft on January 17, 1910, to a seat vacated by Horace Harmon Lurton. Confirmed by the Senate on January 31, 1910, and received commission on January 31, 1910. Assumed senior status on April 15, 1924. Service terminated on May 14, 1930, due to death.
