Nominated by Jimmy Carter on April 14, 1980, to a seat vacated by Wesley E. Brown. Confirmed by the Senate on May 21, 1980, and received commission on May 23, 1980. Served as chief judge, 1992-1995. Assumed senior status on June 6, 1995. Service terminated on March 15, 1996, due to retirement.
