Nominated by Jimmy Carter on March 15, 1979, to a seat vacated by Russell E. Smith. Confirmed by the Senate on May 9, 1979, and received commission on May 10, 1979. Served as chief judge, 1990-1996. Assumed senior status on February 9, 1996. Service terminated on July 3, 2000, due to death.
