Received a recess appointment from Dwight D. Eisenhower on August 29, 1958, to a seat vacated by James R. Kirkland; nominated to the same position by Dwight D. Eisenhower on January 17, 1959. Confirmed by the Senate on September 9, 1959, and received commission on September 10, 1959. Served as chief judge, 1974-1975. Assumed senior status on May 16, 1979. Service terminated on May 21, 1984, due to death.
