Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on April 15, 1933, to a seat vacated by Joseph W. Woodrough. Confirmed by the Senate on April 20, 1933, and received commission on April 27, 1933. Served as chief judge, 1948-1956. Service terminated on February 26, 1956, due to death.
