Nominated by Jimmy Carter on May 17, 1978, to a seat vacated by Hugh H. Bownes. Confirmed by the Senate on June 23, 1978, and received commission on June 27, 1978. Served as chief judge, 1979-1992. Assumed senior status on September 8, 1992. Service terminated on February 22, 1999, due to death.
