Received a recess appointment from James Monroe on June 12, 1821, to a seat vacated by William Davies; nominated to the same position by James Monroe on December 19, 1821. Confirmed by the Senate on January 10, 1822, and received commission on January 10, 1822. Service terminated on May 7, 1839, due to death.
