Nominated by Gerald Ford on July 19, 1976, to a seat vacated by J. Blaine Anderson. Confirmed by the Senate on August 26, 1976, and received commission on September 1, 1976. Served as chief judge, 1981-1988. Assumed senior status on June 6, 1989. Service terminated on June 24, 1997, due to death.
