Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on July 19, 1971, to a new seat authorized by 84 Stat. 294. Confirmed by the Senate on July 29, 1971, and received commission on July 29, 1971. Served as chief judge, 1985-1991. Assumed senior status on December 1, 1991. Service terminated on August 27, 2019, due to death.
