Nominated by Gerald Ford on July 23, 1975, to a seat vacated by Ewing Thomas Kerr. Confirmed by the Senate on September 15, 1975, and received commission on September 16, 1975. Served as chief judge, 1986-1992. Assumed senior status on September 27, 2006. Service terminated on October 23, 2014, due to death.
