Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on June 24, 1971, to a seat vacated by John F. McGohey. Confirmed by the Senate on July 29, 1971, and received commission on July 29, 1971. Served as chief judge, 1986-1993. Assumed senior status on May 31, 2007. Service terminated on July 20, 2008, due to death.
