Received a recess appointment from John Adams on October 31, 1799, to a seat vacated by William Paca; nominated to the same position by John Adams on December 5, 1799. Confirmed by the Senate on December 10, 1799, and received commission on December 10, 1799. Service terminated on April 5, 1806, due to death.

State delegate, Maryland, 1794-1796
