Nominated by Woodrow Wilson on December 19, 1916, to a seat vacated by Thomas S. Maxey. Confirmed by the Senate on December 21, 1916, and received commission on December 21, 1916. Assumed senior status on November 30, 1931. Service terminated on May 13, 1949, due to death.
