Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on March 11, 1970, to a seat vacated by Robert Van Pelt. Confirmed by the Senate on April 23, 1970, and received commission on April 24, 1970. Served as chief judge, 1972-1986. Assumed senior status on December 31, 1990. Service terminated on July 28, 2017, due to death.
