Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on June 17, 1937, to a seat vacated by John E. Martineau. Confirmed by the Senate on June 18, 1937, and received commission on June 18, 1937. Served as chief judge, 1948-1957. Assumed senior status on January 14, 1957. Service terminated on July 6, 1965, due to death.
