Received a recess appointment from Harry S Truman on November 1, 1947, to a seat vacated by Francis G. Caffey; nominated to the same position by Harry S Truman on November 24, 1947. Confirmed by the Senate on December 18, 1947, and received commission on December 20, 1947. Served as chief judge, 1959-1966. Assumed senior status on January 3, 1973. Service terminated on April 10, 1981, due to death.
