Nominated by Jimmy Carter on May 9, 1980, to a seat vacated by Marshall A. Neill. Confirmed by the Senate on June 18, 1980, and received commission on June 18, 1980. Served as chief judge, 1989-1995. Assumed senior status on June 27, 1995. Service terminated on October 27, 2024, due to death.
