Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson on August 17, 1964, to a seat vacated by David W. Ling. Confirmed by the Senate on September 29, 1964, and received commission on October 1, 1964. Served as chief judge, 1979-1984. Assumed senior status on November 30, 1984. Service terminated on September 21, 2007, due to death.
