Nominated by James Buchanan on May 3, 1858, to a seat vacated by John J. Gilchrist. Confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 1858, and received commission on May 6, 1858. Served as presiding judge, 1859-1863. Service terminated on December 14, 1877, due to resignation.
