Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on December 8, 1970, to a new seat authorized by 84 Stat. 294. Confirmed by the Senate on December 16, 1970, and received commission on December 18, 1970. Served as chief judge, 1973-1982. Assumed senior status on February 25, 1983. Service terminated on December 25, 1998, due to death.
