Judge, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia
Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on January 19, 1944, to a seat vacated by Luther B. Way. Confirmed by the Senate on February 8, 1944, and received commission on February 10, 1944. Served as chief judge, 1948-1959. Assumed senior status on September 1, 1959. Service terminated on October 24, 1969, due to death.
