Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on July 19, 1971, to a seat vacated by William Francis Smith. Confirmed by the Senate on September 21, 1971, and received commission on September 23, 1971. Assumed senior status on June 30, 1986. Service terminated on February 10, 1989, due to death.
