Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson on February 16, 1966, to a seat vacated by Frank B. Ellis. Confirmed by the Senate on March 25, 1966, and received commission on March 26, 1966. Served as chief judge, 1972-1992. Assumed senior status on August 26, 1992. Service terminated on August 10, 2014, due to death.
