Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on July 16, 1942, to a seat vacated by James V. Allred. Confirmed by the Senate on August 6, 1942, and received commission on August 12, 1942. Served as chief judge, 1954-1962. Assumed senior status on August 6, 1975. Service terminated on October 22, 1983, due to death.
