Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on July 26, 1971, to a seat vacated by Daniel H. Thomas. Confirmed by the Senate on September 21, 1971, and received commission on September 22, 1971. Served as chief judge, 1981-1989. Assumed senior status on January 19, 1989. Service terminated on September 6, 2008, due to death.
