Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on August 14, 1972, to a seat vacated by Levin H. Campbell. Confirmed by the Senate on October 12, 1972, and received commission on October 17, 1972. Served as chief judge, 1986-1992. Assumed senior status on January 1, 1992. Service terminated on August 21, 2003, due to death.
