Nominated by Dwight D. Eisenhower on June 21, 1955, to a new seat authorized by 68 Stat. 8. Confirmed by the Senate on August 1, 1955, and received commission on August 3, 1955. Served as chief judge, 1966. Service terminated on September 18, 1966, due to reassignment.

Reassigned on September 18, 1966, to a new seat authorized by 80 Stat. 75. Served as chief judge, 1966-1970. Assumed senior status on September 1, 1970. Service terminated on February 28, 1971, due to death.
