Nominated by Harry S Truman on July 11, 1947, to a seat vacated by Adrian J. Caillouet. Confirmed by the Senate on December 18, 1947, and received commission on December 20, 1947. Served as chief judge, 1949-1967. Service terminated on October 5, 1975, due to death.
