Nominated by Dwight D. Eisenhower on April 25, 1955, to a seat vacated by Robert Lee Russell. Confirmed by the Senate on July 22, 1955, and received commission on July 27, 1955. Served as chief judge, 1967-1979. Assumed senior status on July 20, 1984. Service terminated on January 23, 1993, due to death.
