Served as chief judge, 1966-1979. Service terminated on September 27, 1979, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Nominated by Jimmy Carter on March 15, 1979, to a seat vacated by Harry Phillips. Confirmed by the Senate on September 25, 1979, and received commission on September 26, 1979. Assumed senior status on June 16, 1982. Service terminated on December 31, 1997, due to retirement.
