Nominated by Jimmy Carter on May 2, 1977, to a seat vacated by Edward William Day. Confirmed by the Senate on June 30, 1977, and received commission on July 1, 1977. Served as chief judge, 1982-1992. Assumed senior status on December 1, 1992. Service terminated on September 11, 2006, due to death.
