Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 22, 1934, to a seat vacated by Jeremiah Neterer. Confirmed by the Senate on February 28, 1934, and received commission on March 20, 1934. Served as chief judge, 1948-1959. Assumed senior status on June 5, 1961. Service terminated on April 27, 1978, due to death.
